ICE Cymru Wales BEAC Webinar The future of safety in the built environment in Wales

About this event

Safety is paramount to all aspects of work in the built environment. Join our panel of industry experts as we discuss the future of safety including planned changes to frameworks and regulation, and what resource and training will be required to meet these needs, as well as the challenges that remain. Whether you work in pre-construction, delivery or occupation, this is an excellent opportunity to understand and discuss a holistic approach towards safety in Wales.’

Ken Evans Chair ICE Wales Cymru will give a short introduction to the event and introduce the four speakers who will each give a 10 minute presentation

Stella Saunders, Cardiff Council and RSAW member
The tragedy that was Grenfell rightly caused much deep thinking in the construction industry and government. The raft of legislation arising from that terrible incident are so necessary to prevent further similar occurrence. However they are already causing enormous distress in the PII market, forcing some existing practitioners without previous poor record to consider leaving the industry. And as practical as the new protocols appear, can they actually work on the ground ? Have they been drafted by government officials at desks instead of those honed in the practical delivery of projects on the ground ?

Andy Thomas, RICS and Senior Building Control Office Flyde Council.
Andy has previously held senior building safety roles with Welsh Government and was head of the Public Safety group which covered dangerous buildings, and all public events including the Senedd and the Principality Stadium
